Artist talk: The Ecological Wetroom™️ at ARCHIVO

Artist talk: The Ecological Wetroom™️ at ARCHIVO

I'm pleased to share that on Thursday 5 November 2026, 17:00–18:00 (WET/GMT), I'll be giving an Open Session with ARCHIVO, the photography and visual culture research platform, titled The Ecological Wetroom: Cameraless Photography, Residue, and Ecologies of Care.

The session introduces The Ecological Wetroom, an ongoing strand of my creative research that asks how cameraless photographic processes might become a form of ecological care. At its heart is a DIY circular wetroom model, an experiment in whether the washwater and wastewater produced in making photographs can be filtered, treated, and recirculated using low-tech, plant-based methods.

This isn't a polished technical fix. The aim is to make the hidden infrastructure of image-making visible, and to treat chemistry, water, waste, and residue as central to the work rather than as by-products. I'll talk through the materials the project works with, including cyanotype chemistry, harvested London rainwater, activated charcoal, gravel, living plants, and the washwater itself, and how each of them carries both material and conceptual weight.

The project sits within my wider PhD research at SEPR, TU Dublin, where I explore cameraless, ecological photographic practices through the legacy of Anna Atkins. This session is very much work in progress. I'm sharing it to test ideas, sharpen my questions, and hear critical feedback, so I'd love for you to join the conversation.

Tickets are free, with a pay-what-you-want option to support ARCHIVO's work. Details and registration here.
